10 Things You Need to Know about Pokemon Go

If you haven't heard of Pokemon Go, you obviously live under the biggest, most boring rock, ever. Just days after the release of the app it was clear something had taken control of the world. We'd see people walking everywhere face down in their phones in groups of 2, 3, 4, or even solidarity. What are they doing? Pokemon? Like, the cards? Everywhere we turned, there they were. Every website we landed on, there was an article. We were intrigued, to say the least.

We had no other choice, we decided to give it a Pokemon Go. After 7 days of game playing, we find ourselves sitting at level 5 + 6. We haven't joined a team, yet. Mainly because we're afraid of commitment, and therefore we haven't battled in a gym. With that being said, here are 10 things we've learned after one week of Pokemon Go:

  1. You will find yourself asking 2 million questions throughout the day.

    1. Who is Pokemon? - Pokemon is not a person. Pokemon are pocket monsters.

    2. Where are they?

    3. Why won't my app work?

    4. How do I catch them?

    5. Why do I catch them?

    6. Why won't my app work?

    7. So what are we doing?

    8. Why won't my app work?

    9. Is anyone actually playing or are they just waiting to get connected? UGH!

  2. Your likelihood of being hit by a car or running into a sculpture will increase.

  3. Pokemoners' are everywhere! They are incredibly friendly people. The sense of the Pokemon community is adorable.

  4. Your phone's battery life will suffer greatly. Your only chance of survival is to bring along a battery pack.

  5. You will experience an annoying amount of connectivity issues. Your patience will be tested.

  6. Nobody likes the red team.

  7. Living near a gym is ideal. A gym is not where you workout, but rather where you battle.

  8. It's nice having a younger (30-year-old) brother to call who is currently level 20 for when times get tough.

  9. You will catch yourself in the most ridiculous of conversations.

    1. “OMG, it’s a Jigglypuff!!!!” – Angie “What’s a Jigglypuff, and how do you know its name already?” – Val

    2. “I just used this incense and like two showed up and then it froze! Ugh, it's so not fair!” – Val

    3. “I was laying down to bed and then three just appeared in my room.” – Kerry

    4. “I killed 2 of them!” – Val “You don’t kill them…you catch them.” – Everyone

    5. “So you use your egg and then start incubating it and then you walk for 3 miles and then it’ll hatch!”

    6. “STOP! They're everywhere!....wait we can’t. We’re on 41st street.” – Val

  10. You'll need to get up and walk around to make the most of the game.

Conclusion - While we're not quite ready to delete the app altogether, we are a bit skeptical on whether or not we'll ever get super addicted. Our team has found that the most exciting thing thus far, is collecting those cute little pocket monsters. We want them all! It makes things like waiting in line, walking the dogs, or passing time a bit more entertaining. We also agree it's a great way to get people up and out. Way to go Pokemon on encouraging those daily steps!
