Where to volunteer in Sioux Falls?

At The Sampson House, we believe in spending time as a team to help grow together through activities and volunteering. With the end of the year in sight, there is a lot of reflection on the past and how we can improve our community by helping others. That is why we wanted to share some fun volunteer opportunities that are great for teams, of any size, to participate in. Read more to learn about the ways you can get involved in the community this coming year.

1). Serve a meal at The Banquet. The Banquet's mission is to "provide a welcoming place where people can gather, receive nourishment and experience love in action and assist volunteers in providing food and fellowship to those served through the ministry of The Banquet. We will be vigilant in identifying and fulfilling the needs of the hungry in our diverse community and in encouraging the health and wellness of our guests." Every year, we volunteer as a team to serve and eat meals with the guests. We highly recommend gathering a team of colleagues, family + friends and spending a few hours connecting with the guests at The Banquet. Can't make it to volunteer but still want to contribute? Sponsor a meal! Click here to learn more about sponsoring and volunteering at The Banquet.

2). Watch a performance at the Olde Towne Dinner Theatre. Did you know we have a hidden gem of a playhouse so close to home called Olde Towne Dinner Theatre? "Over the past 34 years, Olde Towne has continued to be a strong, affordable entertainment option in the upper Midwest. With an annual attendance of over 8,500 and climbing, we provide entertaining theatre and delicious meals to our loyal and generous patrons. The actors, cast and crew are volunteers, as are the wait staff and the bartenders. Our volunteers are standout community members committed to excellence. Olde Towne dinner is so thankful for these wonderful volunteers." The Theatre is always looking for people to help serve dinner + drinks and volunteer in their plays. The perk of spending an evening in Worthing? You get to watch a show and enjoy a meal for free! Get ready to LOL, leave with full bellies and memories. This is the perfect team-bonding experience. 3). Spread holiday cheer. A tradition we started our first year at The Sampson House that is near and dear to our hearts is called Sharing Christmas. Sharing Christmas is put on through The Center of Hope who matches families in need w/ local donors that they then get to shop for. Typically, the items that families need most are food + toiletries with a gift or two for their children during Christmas. Being able to see the joy on the family's face is priceless! Help spread holiday cheer by signing up to sponsor a family next year.

4). Wrap gifts at the mall. Who doesn’t like to wrap gifts and make them look pretty? What’s even better is that it is for a good cause! People that bring their gifts can give a free-will donation that will directly go to support The Children’s Inn. The Children’s Inn is a program of the Children’s Home Society where families can turn to if they live in an unsafe home environment. Get in touch with The Children’s Home Society to learn about this volunteer opportunity. However, you better act now because these spots fill up fast!

There are so many ways to volunteer in our community + come together as a team, but these are just a few of our favorites. Let us know if you try any of the volunteer opportunities above.
