BTS: Daytrip Brand Photography Shoot
As a marketing agency, one of the many services The Sampson House offers is creating high quality Brand Photography. Our team is brought on to a client's project to do a multitude of things, usually including – prop collecting, styling and photographing a product our client sells or is looking to launch.
Although it may seem like an easy and quick process, it is anything but. The time and preparation that goes into bringing a brand’s identity and voice to life through photography can be meticulous, but the final result is always worth it!
This fall, The Sampson House Team was brought on to shoot brand photography for Daytrip, a CBD sparkling water and edibles company based out of California. This spunky company is all about fun, good energy, and all-things-are-bright attitude. Their website and social media accounts reflect this, which was the type of photos we were tasked to create.
We were provided a client photo brief, scope of work and drink recipe deck to learn and digest.
The scope of the project is given to TSH for review. Our team wants to understand client expectations, so we are able to produce on-brand content. Once we’ve been given the project scope and have gone through a client kickoff/discovery, we are ready to move forward. The next step is an internal brainstorm session which leads to creating client-approved mood and inspiration boards, prop sourcing and location scouting.
Finding inspiration includes a lot of Pinterest and Instagram scrolling, Google searching and screenshotting while trying to find the type of content we find visually compelling. In this stage of content building, we look for photos that we think fit the brand’s identity, their color scheme, the message they want to convey to their audience. All of these inspiration shots are then implemented into a presentation and sent to the creative team that will be producing content for this project.
Next, our team decides what type of props are needed to develop and create. Prop collecting may seem like a small detail, but it takes hard work, time, and attention to minor details to source items needed to bring the overall vision to life. For example, making sure fruit garnishes for the mocktails/cocktails aren’t bruised and look healthy, the construction paper doesn’t have any marks in it, the cut of meat is thick enough, and the avocado is perfectly ripe. Minor details that may not seem significant, but are critical to creating the perfect shot.
Once the props have been collected, it’s onto shoot day! For this particular shoot, we had a photographer, art director and project manager working on set, styling and photographing content, it was a full-team effort. In order to check all the project scope boxes, we printed recipe cards, prop lists, mood boards and shot ideas to perfect each cocktail/mocktail set.
In order to achieve a variety of looks for each cocktail/mocktail set, we shot in our TSH studio along with different locations within the community like, The Hello Hi Bar. This shoot took multiple days, a lot of creative brainstorming, and all the attention to detail.
The results were high-quality, fun, and vibrant images that the Daytrip team will be able to utilize for a multitude of successful content marketing efforts and strategies.
This winter our team submitted final images from our Daytrip shoot to the American Advertising Awards and The Sampson House team was SO excited to have won a Silver AAA award in the category of Elements of Advertising Visual – Still Photography – 055D Black & White/Color/ Digitally Enhanced Campaign. This is a huge accomplishment and honor for our team.
