Exploring the Big Apple with TSH & Daylight Wine & Spirits

Bright lights, big city—and some great food and drinks. We recently sent a few members of The Sampson House team to New York City to create content for our client Daylight Wine & Spirits as they promoted their product Ammunition Whiskey.

First off, hi! I’m Jaci. I’ve been a project manager here at The Sampson House for 9 months, and I love helping our clients reach their goals with smart marketing and awesome content. And it’s always a bonus if creating that content requires me to travel to beautiful, exciting, fashion-forward New York City with Kerry, our co-founder, and art director.

Kerry and I started off the trip with a bright and early flight out of Sioux Falls—and a quick sprint through the Minneapolis airport to catch our connecting flight.

Our trip would last four days, hosting an event each night for influencers, journalists, writers, cocktail creators, and distributors to mingle, get to know the brand, and taste-test the products, of course.

Day 1

On the first day, we met the rest of the Ammunition team in New Jersey at The Montecristo Lounge at JR Cigar, which houses both Ammunition whiskies. We tried out some coffee-flavored cigars and became acquainted with the team. Next, we headed to the restaurant 1776 by David Burke for the night’s main event. This was such a fun kick-off to our week, seeing new and familiar faces of the Ammunition team, starting our creative work, and beginning a week of delicious food!

Day 2

On the second day, we tagged along to watch Ammunition co-founder, Andy Wahl, give an interview on CBS Sports Radio The DA Show. We were able to sit in during the live-recorded interview, see the soundboards, and meet The DA Show crew. (Listen to the episode here.

We spent the afternoon walking around Central Park, shooting content for Ammunition around the park and local restaurants, as well as listening to street musicians and performers. We eventually made our way toward Brooklyn to grab some more shots of iconic landmarks on that side of the bridge before the night’s event at a restaurant called Nura

We had a blast. The drinks were tasty, not to mention beautiful, and the food was delicious. The company and conversation couldn’t have been better, either. Kerry and I enjoyed getting to know so many people from such diverse backgrounds. We even got some great tips on the best authentic food spots.

We finished the night with a round of drinks and games at another local bar with the Ammunition team before heading back to the hotel.

Day 3

Our third day started with more exploring. We checked out some of the historic spots of New York, including Ground Zero, the Oculus, and the 9/11 Memorial.

Then it was preparation time for our main event at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, put on for a select number of local influencers, cocktail writers, journalists, and distributors.

During this trip, we also launched the idea of the Ammunition Trail, a map created to show the restaurants and retail spots where Ammunition wine and whiskey are found within New York. The trail kicked off with our main event at Del Frisco’s, then continued at a speakeasy called Patent Pending, and finished at the well-known Oscar Wilde NYC

The night was full of great conversation, tasty drinks, delicious food, a spontaneous visit from Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”, anyone?), a majestic eagle ice sculpture, and much more. Overall, it was a great event and was a great opportunity to learn more about our clients and the people that have made their brand what it is today.

Day 4

On our last day in the city, we were able to see our part-time digital marketing strategist, Huong Nguyen. We met up for brunch and then explored New York’s “floating island” together. It was so great to see her!

Looking back at the NYC skyline was the best way to wrap up our trip and reflect on some super successful events—even though we were about to blow over because it was so windy.

The Ammunition trip was such a fun experience, especially getting to work with our client in person rather than our typical Zoom calls.

Follow Ammunition’s Instagram and Facebook, and be sure to check out their exceptional wares if you find yourself in the Big Apple.
