The Intern: Meet, Grace!

Introducing intern #2 for the semester, Grace!! She’s an all-star! Diving right into all things digital media coordination for not only TSH blog, but for some of our clients as well. A total go-getter and the bubbliest personality. She is gold! Read all about her.

Name: Grace Fjellanger

College: Augustana University

Major: Communication and Media

Birthday: September 27th

What projects are you working on at The Sampson House?

Prairie Lane Vintage Rentals, Rebekah Scott Designs, and our very own TSH! I act as the Digital Media Coordinator Intern which means I oversee the clients content. At the moment, most of my focus is working on creating September and October Blog posts and the upcoming Newsletter.

What do you spend your time doing when you’re not working on TSH?

I am very involved at my school so if I am not working on TSH I am probably working on projects for PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) as the Senior Account Executive, running elections as Personnel & Development Chair on ASA (Augustana Student Association) or taking a walk around campus giving prospective students tours as an Admissions Ambassador. When I have free time (and no homework) I love spending it playing volleyball, working out, or hanging out at home with my bffs and some Netflix.

Where is home for you and what conjures up the feeling of home?

I am Sioux Falls born and raised. I currently live on the AU campus in a brand new apartment! Feeling at home for me is being surrounded by my close friends, a cozy blanket, a mug of tea, and a fall scented candle blazing in the background (what I am doing atm).

What are you reading right now?

Textbooks. Lol. I can’t wait for the day when I can read things I WANT to.

What is your ideal weekend?

Doing anything that involves relaxation and no email.

What app could you not live without?

Twitter. It’s my main source of daily news and entertainment!

What’s your go-to coffee beverage?

Decaf black coffee with french vanilla creamer. Yes I did say decaf! I drink coffee for the taste and not the caffeine. I am usually more of a tea drinker so anything that involves green tea with matcha powder rocks my world.

When did you develop an interest in marketing?

When I got to college, I joined my schools PRSSA team where I have been in a leadership role there all four years. I have worked on campaigns, planned events and networked. I found that PR was something I was good at and enjoyed. Upon visiting different agencies around Sioux Falls and in Minneapolis, I quickly fell in love with agency life.

What drew you to The Sampson House?

I found out about TSH when one of my classmates presented on the agency in my intro to marketing class last fall. I followed on Instagram, liked on Facebook, and became a loyal follower of The Sampson House. I was very intrigued by the content I was seeing and the clients they were creating it for. It was something that I wanted to be able to create one day as well.

Favorite way to blow off steam?

Going on a run, hitting the gym or venting to my mom. Or a combination of all three.

If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be and what would you order?

Hands down Michelle Obama. I would order a flatbread veggie pizza and a glass of red wine.

Best advice you’ve ever received?

“The most alluring thing a woman can have is confidence” – Beyoncé

What’s your favorite thing about your internship?

The environment and the space I get to walk into everyday is the perfect atmosphere to get things done. Being able to develop my managerial skills as well as having freedom to learn how to create meaningful content. I have also really enjoyed getting to work with Gabby on planning and shooting photoshoots for RSD.

What’s your ultimate bucket-list travel destination?

The Gold Coast of Australia. Bring on the sun and Koala bears :)

Ultimate favorite college moment?

My study abroad trip to Eastern Europe during my sophomore year! We traveled to Poland, Lithuania (<3), and Germany. The course was a communication and photography course and our goal was to show show trauma in the areas we visited through photography. Our main focus was studying the aftermath of the Holocaust and World War II. We went to Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, talked with survivor’s and war veterans. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime trip!

Favorite restaurant?

Mama’s Lada’s, Jimmy Johns, Mackenzie River, Golden Bowl, Culver’s. A girl can’t choose just one!

3 interesting things about you:

  1. I have a twin brother named Branch (yes, like a tree.)

  2. My first concert was Weird Al at the Corn palace…thank you Dad!

  3. I have had 21 teeth pulled!
