Your First Home, Their Forever Home

In the summer of 2025, South Dakota Housing partnered with the Sioux Falls Humane Society to bring together two life-changing milestones under one roof: finding a first home and finding a forever home. Through a community adoption event, the partnership aimed to remove barriers to pet adoption while highlighting how stable housing can positively impact families, individuals, and the animals who become part of their lives. By aligning affordable housing advocacy with animal welfare, South Dakota Housing reinforced its commitment to building stronger, more compassionate communities, where both people and pets have the opportunity to thrive.

Overview

The Sampson House partnered with South Dakota Housing to plan and coordinate a community-centered adoption event in collaboration with the Sioux Falls Humane Society, strategically aligning the activation with South Dakota Housing’s First-Time Homebuyer program. By sponsoring pet adoptions at reduced adoption fees, the event helped remove financial barriers for adopters while reinforcing the idea that welcoming a pet often coincides with settling into a first home.

To support program awareness, The Sampson House developed custom-branded collateral distributed to every adopter, highlighting the First-Time Homebuyer program and its resources at a time when participants were thinking about home, stability, and long-term commitment. We also ensured South Dakota Housing’s logo and program messaging were integrated across all Humane Society social media posts tied to each adoption, extending reach beyond the event and driving broader awareness of the First-Time Homebuyer program. The result was a thoughtful, mission-aligned activation that connected housing education with community impact in a natural and emotionally resonant way.
